markerTool for Final Cut Pro

markerTool is a small but powerful application in case you want to work with markers within Final Cut Pro.
It allows to move markers from clips to the sequence level, from sequence level to selected tracks, moving an arbitrary selection of sequence markers in time, exporting the marker settings to the clipboard and finally creating sequence markers with data from a tab delimited text file.
It also does allow to collect all sequence markers from nested sequences.

Below a rough manual.

Preferences

Using the "All Marker Types" the application doesn't care about the type of marker and will process all.

Deselecting the "All Marker Types" you can filter the markers which are processed, but all marker values of every type of markers are kept in memory for export.
The "Consider Only" and "Ignore" option allows to work with special markers only. To get only standard markers for example check: "Ignore", "Chapter", "Compression", "Scoring"

Using the "Pre-Filter on Import" will work as above, but will set the clipboard to the user selection of marker types only.

"Delete Original Markers" does what it says. If a marker is lifted or dropped it will be removed at the source.
There is the option to include audio markers or not. This will be honored by Final Cut Pro - but if you edit this markers Final Cut Pro will fall back to standard behaviour and make AV markers the same.

Using either "Add Markers …" or "Replace Markers …" will do what it says while creating marker from an external file.
The text file needs to be formatted correctly - to get info about the format click here.

With the "Auto-Save …" enabled the application will replace the original XML with the modified XML without any user interaction.
This only works for the "lift" and "drop" options. Moving sequence markers do need to save the file manually.

Main Window Functions

"Lift video markers to sequence level" This will use all clip item video markers from whatever track of the current sequence - it does not handle nested items for more than depth level 1. The kind of markers is based upon the user preferences.
The marker name, comment and time-code values are send to the clipboard. This allows to paste them into a text document or MS Excel or another data base application.

"Drop sequence markers to video track ..." This will drop all sequence markers (the kind is based on user selection) to a selected track in the sequence.
The marker name, comment and time-code values are send to the clipboard. This allows to paste them into a text document or MS Excel.

"Show Sequence Markers" This just show all sequence markers based upon user preferences. No processing is done.
From there one can use the "Move All Markers" or "Move Selected Markers" to modify the timing of the sequence markers.
"Auto - Save" will be disabled.
The marker name, comment and time-code values are send to the clipboard.

"Move All Markers" This option is enabled if a sequence XML is imported by using the "Show Sequence Markers" button.
It will move all sequence markers by a user given amount of frames - no timecode entry now.

"Move Selected Markers" This option is enabled if a sequence XML is imported by using the "Show Sequence Markers" button.
It will move a user defined selection of sequence markers by a user given amount of frames - no timecode entry now.

"Lift Nested Markers" This option will allow to move all sequences markers of any nest depth to the main sequence - means to that sequence the user will open with markerTool.

"Import Plain Text Tab Delimited File" This allows to import a plain text file to create sequence markers.
The required format is:
InTC tab OutTC tab DurationTC tab Name tab Comment
OutTC, DurationTC and comment can be left blank.
The user can use a "double import" to drop the markers to a selected video track -- first sequence level, then save, then "Drop sequence markers to video track ...",then save again.
